221 Brazilian CDM Projects In The Pipeline Are Targeting To Reduce Annually A Total Of 26 Million Ton. Of CO2

“In an exclusive interview with Carbonfreezone.com, Mr. Jose Domingos Gonzalez Miguez, DNA Brazil also Alternate Member with UNFCCC Executive Board, talks about CDM Project opportunities in Brazil and much more”

(1888PressRelease) May 16, 2007 - “Brazil was the first country to establish a DNA (Designated National Authority), which is doing an outstanding work analyzing the project activities and approving only good CDM projects, which can be confirmed with the numbers of Brazilian projects registered at the EB and Brazilian projects with CERs already issued.” highlighted Mr. José Domingos Gonzalez Miguez, from DNA Brazil and also an alternate member of Executive Board, UNFCCC in an exclusive interview with www.carbonfreezone.com.

Brazil is rated in the top three destinations for developing and hosting a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project. CDM projects falls under three mechanisms defined by Kyoto Protocol in order to meet carbon offset targets and generate carbon credits. 221 Brazilian projects in pipeline targets to reduce 26 million tonne of CO2 emission generating a huge pool of credits and offsets.

“The Commission is always receiving and helping people interested in developing any type of CDM project activity.” added Mr.Miguez who leads the Brazil DNA efforts in spreading awareness among small project developers and industry owners.

Energy and Waste Handling and disposal are the major CDM project development sectors in the country. Though banks and institutional financing has gone up, investment and finance still remains as one of the biggest roadblock in setting up a CDM project followed by technical know how and understanding of CDM processes.

As Kyoto protocol has started picking up and Carbon market which is still in its early stage needs more visibility both in terms of awareness and as a business prospect.

Mr. Miguez appreciated efforts like CarbonFreeZone.com and sees it as making a difference and mitigating some of the problems faced by the CDM project developers.

“It will help link developers and investors thus increasing the possibilities of developing a CDM project and helping achieve the Kyoto Protocol targets.”

CarbonFreeZone.com has been a big advocate of Kyoto Protocol and efforts against global warming and climate change. “What we see today is a change in prospective and people are waking up to realize the impact of climate change. We want to continue to spread awareness about the same and make our site a world platform to share this information. Other than CDM Bazaar we have other sections featuring innovations and stories from green sectors. A small innovation today could well be a revolution tomorrow, bringing them together and in front of the world is what we are striving for” said Mr. Rohit Sethi, operating director of the portal.

The interview was one from the series of features on Designated National Authorities (DNA) on CarbonFreeZone.com. To read the full transcript of the interview visit:
