January 28, 2009 - Livermore - Campo di Bocce has played host to the 2006 North American Bocce Championships, the 2007 National Chapionships and will be hosting the 2009 National Bocce Championships in June, 2009. Campo di Bocce will also be the host of the 11th Annual John Madden and Steve Mariucci Battle of the Bay Charity Bocce Tournament.
Bocce on the World level is much larger than most people recognize and it is quite an honor to be able to send women from our region to the world championships. The World Championships play host to the best players in the world and this year is no exception. The top 16 countries in the world will be present including the top 4 qualifiers from the World Chapionships in 2007 which include Italy, France, China and Algeria.
The USA women will be competing in all 4 events at this years World Chapionships including speed shooting, doubles speed shooting, precision shooting and the actual game of doubles VOLO.
The team members consist of four women ranging from 14 to 30 years of age and will be coached by Ben Musolf, COO of Campo di Bocce of Livermore. The team practices at Campo di Bocce of Livermore on Tuesday’s from 5:30PM-7:30PM and on Thursday’s from 3:30PM to 5:30PM. Practice is open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend and familiarize themselves with the enhanced version of
the game of Bocce.
Player Bios:
NAVINA BERNARDI
Navina is relatively new to the game of Bocce and is the youngest on the team. Navina has a family of Bocce history with her Father and Brother both having competed on the National and International level. Navina is a natural athlete with Tennis being her first love therefore making the transition to Bocce a simple one. Navina was first introduced to Bocce by her grandparents who are
both descendants of Italy.
SALINNA GRANT
Salinna fell in love with sports at the age of nine with Basketball being her magnet to sports. With explosive quickness and agility, track and field along with softball became true loves as well. While playing collegiate basketball at Ohlone College she received many accolades including Honorable Mention as well as numerous player awards. Salinna fell in love with Bocce upon starting
employment at Campo di Bocce in the fall of 2006. Since then Salinna has competed regionally as well as Nationally earning the Bronze Medal at the 2008 National Bocce Championships held in Highwood, Illinois
TIFFANY GARLAND-MARTINI
Tiffany is the captain of the Women’s team represting the USA at the World Bocce Championships this year in Italy. Tiffany is a jack of all trades with sports being the magnitude of her life. Tiffany is a health buff but loves mexican food and pizza. Growing up Tiffany played every sport imaginable and yearns for competition. Tiffany fell in love with Bocce only two years ago and has already accomplished many goals and is ready to take on the worlds best. Tiffany was on the team that won the Bronze medal in Highwood at the 2008 National Championships and has set her goals all the way to the top to show the entire world what her capabilities are.
MEGAN WISEMAN
Megan was also an integral part of the team that won the bronze medal in Highwood, Il. at the 2008 National Championships. Megan has been an athlete all of her life and has played virtually every sport imagineable but has excelled at Soccer, Softball, Basketball and now Bocce. Megan’s love for Bocce began upon her emplyment at Campo di Bocce of Livermore. Along with Tiffany and Salinna- Megan was on the Bronze medal team at the National Championships in Highwood, Illinois in June of 2008. Megan’s performance on the National level of Bocce immediately escalated her to the International level where she competed in the North American Bocce Championships in Toronto, Ontario where her team performed with excellence and won the silver medal. Megan has a never say die attitude and is determined to make a statement at this years World Bocce Championships in Bavagna, Italy.
BEN MUSOLF, COACH
Ben has been an athlete all of his life excelling at Soccer and Hockey. Growing up in Michigan he started playing competitive soccer at the age of 3 and continued to do so for 18 more years. Bocce became a part of Ben’s life 11 years ago when he started working at Campo di Bocce in Los Gatos, Californnia. The need for athleticism and chess like strategy is what really made Ben fall in love with the game. Throughout the years Ben and received numerous medals and accolades on the National Bocce level. Ben has played host to both National and International events and has had the opportunity to represent the USA both as a Coach and Player. Ben Coached the Men’s VOLO team in Nice, France in 2003 earning a fifth place finish in the World. High expectations are being set for this years Women’s team, but the most important aspect of representing the USA is to have fun and enjoy the game.
