May 18, 2009 - LVIM hosted area physicians and special guests at their annual VIP Awards and Sponsor Dinner on Friday evening, April 24th, 2009. Medical professionals in attendance have made a significant impact on the present and future health of Polk County.
The nominating committee, headed up by Dr. Ed Goodemote of Radiology and Imaging Specialists, Inc., was pleased to see an overwhelming amount of nominations this year. The selection committee narrowed the field of physicians to six candidates for two awards of distinction: Polk County Medical Research and Polk County Medical Community Service.
The 2009 award recipients are:
Bruce Kottke, M.D. - Polk County Medical Research Award
Donna Bhisitkul, M.D. - Polk County Medical Community Service Award
Additional awards of the evening were presented by Bobby Yates, C.A.O of Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. LVIM provides free medical, dental and mental health services to eligible working uninsured residents of Polk County. The administration and faculty recognized two physicians for their outstanding contributions to LVIM’s mission. These honors are given to celebrate the positive impact these health professionals have in the following categories: LVIM Dentist of the Year and LVIM Physician of the Year.

James Armistead, M.D. - LVIM Physician of the Year
The awards were once again presented at the VIP Awards and Sponsor Dinner in conjunction with the 2009 Lakeland Derby, LVIM’s premier community and fundraising event.
