October 09, 2008 - Raleigh, NC: Importantly, the 2008 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid’s mileage in city conditions, where its highest driving is done, went up by 50 percent over other V8’s.
The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid out-scored other prominent hybrid models. The final five that were shortlisted for this award were Chevrolet Malibu; Mazda Tribute; Saturn Aura and Nissan Altima. This list was drawn from an initial list of 12 models.
The jury that gave this award was picked from some of the leading names in environment and industry. These consisted of Carroll Shelby, Jay Leno, Carl Pope (Sierra Club); Christopher Flavin (Worldwatch Institute); Jonathan Lash (World Resources Institute), and Jean-Michel Cousteau (Ocean Futures Society).
There were other factors the jury considered while choosing a vehicle for this award. Important among these were the stage of development of this technology the manufacturer has reached, total volume of the vehicles produced, and the extent to which these environment-friendly technologies can lead to implementation in other vehicles.
