Reno-Sparks, NV (1888PressRelease)
March 15, 2008 - Over a thousand members and guests of the 101st Airborne Division Association will gather in Reno, Nevada August 13-17, bringing together veterans who served with the famed Screaming Eagles in combat and cold war, from Normandy to Samarra, and joined by Friends of the Airborne from Europe and families of fallen soldiers. See http://www.screamingeagle.org/reunion.htm for more information.
The Reunion will include a “TEE IT UP FOR THE TROOPS” golf tournament and a memorial dinner to honor all Fallen Eagles. The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Command Parachute Demonstration Team will bring chills to the old paratroopers as active Army parachutists fall from the sky. For the first time, members of the 502d Airborne Infantry and the 506th Airborne Infantry Regimental Associations will join the Division Association at their 63d annual reunion.
All past and present Screaming Eagles are invited to meet with new comrades and renew old friendships. Former members are especially invited to see how the organization has changed over the years. Current membership is not necessary for former Screaming Eagles to come and purchase individual tickets to the events.
The 101st Airborne Division Association The 101st Airborne Division Association, founded in 1945 by its veterans to provide social and service benefits to members, families, active duty soldiers and their families, welcomes all Screaming Eagles, from veterans to the active duty troopers of today, regardless of where or when they served. In addition to uniting all generations of Screaming Eagles, the Association links all units that are now or were previously assigned or attached to the Division. The Association, largely through charitable donations, has provided over $300,000 in support of troopers and their families during the current series of deployments, and has provided scholarships to deserving students for over forty years. Nationwide, Association Members, through the various Chapters, continue to provide moral, physical and financial support to wounded veterans in hospitals and to assist in their recovery.
The 101st Airborne Division Association represents the largest, most powerful and most famous military unit in the world. This fame began when the Division was organized in the early days of WWII and the first Commanding General, William C. Lee, told his troopers “The 101st Airborne Division does not have a history, but we have a Rendezvous with Destiny.” From the glider landings and parachute jumps into the dark skies over Normandy to the frozen foxholes of Bastogne, the 101st led the way across Europe from the hedgerows to Hitler’s Eagle Nest. The Division endured more combat days in Vietnam than any other Army Division, has deployed on peacekeeping missions in the Sinai and the Balkans, even fought forest fires in Montana. Currently, Screaming Eagles are serving with honor, some for their third tour, in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Once you’ve worn the patch, you never really take it off - AIRBORNE, AIR ASSAULT, ALL THE WAY!
