May 18, 2009 - Dwain Celistan, the Career Acceleration Coach has written a new book, “You’re Hired, Actions to Get and Keep the Job You Love”. The following is an interview with the author.
Why did you write this book?
I’ve been a candidate, a senior hiring executive and an executive search consultant. My perspective on the topic is broad, and I wanted to share ideas and strategies that have worked for many executives. This book contains knowledge gleaned over years that has been kept in relatively few hands, and it needs to be shared broadly.
How will this benefit the person who finds themselves unemployed?
There are action steps to help them with all phases of their search. From clarifying the roles they are pursuing to improving their approach to networking. There are also actions that are included that can enhance your internet search techniques.
While unemployment is high, most people are employed, are there elements for them?
Yes, unemployment is temporary for most workers. Therefore, the book contains action steps that enable the reader to boost their productivity and develop their personal brand at the work place.
Two examples discussed in the book are alignment with your manager and “do the right job in the right way”. Both topics are developed with an eye on actions that can be employed immediately.
One of your chapters says “manage your manager”, isn’t that obvious?
It is obvious that you and your manager have an established relationship. Your manager shares with you changes in status and provides your personnel review. For many, it is not obvious the total impact your manager has on your career.
Why did you say “Actions to Get and Keep Your Job”?
This book is light on philosophy and heavily focused on behaviors and action steps the reader can employ. For your behavior will impact your results. Thus, the goal of this book is to help the reader “make it happen”.
