‘What’s In It For Me?’ The Debut Novel By Christopher Beckwith Soars To Number Two At Atlanta’s Top Gay Book Store

Christopher Beckwith scores a hit with his debut novel 'What's in it for me?'. This inspiring and enlightening story tugs at the heart and tickles the funny bone. It is a romantic roller coaster whose three dimensional characters are vividly woven into an irresistible page-turner; one that is destined for best-seller status!

Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) April 10, 2009 - Exclamation Books is proud to announce that ‘What’s in it for me?’, a novel by first-time author Christopher Beckwith, reached #2 on Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse’s list of Top Ten Books. Outwrite was voted ‘Critic’s Pick’ for best independent book store by Creative Loafing magazine (Atlanta) and is also the site where Beckwith was featured in his first reading and Q&A session.

‘What’s in it for me?’ is a story of self-discovery, intrigue, intimacy, deception and redemption. This may seem extreme for a single novel but Beckwith brings each premise together seamlessly in what has proved to be an exciting, credible and realistic story.

‘What’s in it for me?’ is a fast-paced novel that captures one week in the life of the handsome and talented Ronald Davis, an Atlanta architect who is content with almost every face of his life except for the absence of true love. As a gay man, Ron wants more than one-night stands or the occasional hook up but after a fruitless search, becomes convinced that he will never find true love. Then during a business trip to Houston, Ron finds that life just may have more to offer than he ever expected as the possibility of love and happiness enters his world. But his joy is short-lived when he returns home where tragedy awaits!

When asked what inspired him to write, Beckwith states, “My initial purpose for writing ‘What’s in it for me?’ was simply to create a stream of income but that rationale quickly evolved into my desire to redefine what it means to be Black and Gay in America. The prevailing mindset in America as it relates to being Black and Gay is clouded with notions of narcissism, promiscuity and self-doubt. Many members of the SGL (same gender loving) community have long battled issues, many of which are self-imposed, that hinder alignment of sexuality, moral beliefs and Christianity. I purposely chose to do my part in combating these concerns by writing a relatable story that is entertaining and yet thought-provoking. It is my hope that readers will reexamine the choices made when it comes to dating and forming meaningful friendships and/or relationships.”

‘What’s in it for me?’ is a story that challenges misconceptions and illustrates how relationships and love are at the center of all humankind, regardless of one’s sexual orientation. And while the men and women in the story are all creations of Beckwith’s imagination, most readers will find that one or more of the amazingly-developed characters will remind them of someone they know, if not themselves. It’s a book that once you begin reading, you will have difficulty putting down until the very last page!

Beckwith’s cunning storytelling draws the reader in as he executes the true purpose of fictional writing. His fresh and unique twist on words and gripping visualization captures the reader’s attention while leaving them aching to find out what happens next. Even casual readers have found themselves compelled to purchase the book after reading only the first few pages!
