October 26, 2009 - Texas-native (as he claims in the back of his book, "unfortunately") Aidan Watson-Morris has recently self published his debut novel, a humorous memoir entitled 'To Flee or Not to Be'. Aidan Watson-Morris is 13 years old.
Bookemon, the venue through which the book is available, describes the book as "life, if not at its best, at its most humorous. To Flee or Not to Be draws from the bag of life to detail interesting events in the most humorous light possible told from the eyes of a cynical teenager in today's society whose articulate language and suprising literature appreciation is anything but ordinary."
"I feel it is ready to be criticized by the public as opposed to family members." Aidan jokes in the introduction of the book. "In this book, I feel I have created a mesh of writing talent, life and my sense of humor all of which have been both praised and said to be lacking."
Yet, through the fog of humor, there seems to be a dark overlay and a hidden search for the meaning of life, as evident in 'Ode to Frank', the last chapter dedicated to Aidan's deceased grandfather.
Aidan Watson-Morris is described in his own book as "a cynical (and suprisingly appreciative of literature) teenager who's talent in writing was recognized at an early age."
The book itself appears decieving, as its cover bears a Christmas tree and several other holiday symbols, but only the first chapter is dedicated to the holiday season.
Aidan claims at the beginning of his book that the manuscript was accepted by several publishers and literary agencies, but "I feel the things I want to do must not be limited early, rather I will be caged in a contract after I win the Nobel Peace Prize. Which is good, because that will never happen." Aidan states.
'To Flee or Not to Be' is also rather confusing in numerous references to Douglas Adam's work, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.
"I found To Flee or Not to Be to be a promising work, and one into which you obviously poured your heart." Quoted on the site from Gail Ross Literary Agency, in an email to Aidan about the novel. It has definitely found an audience, as it is rated at five stars.
