January 08, 2009 - LOS ANGELES, CA — TV Anchor and Celebrity Interviewer Janeen Mansour, Dubai.TV announced today that the Salvation Army has agreed to collect shoes at the first Celebrity Shoe Drive at the driving range of Rancho Park Golf Course (W Pico Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90064.) The shoe throwing competition features a children’s, ladies’ and men’s category, which starts begins at Noon, and is expected to last two hours.
"The Salvation Army is grateful to be selected as the official charity of the Janeen Mansour Celebrity Shoe Drive," said Major Victor A. Leslie, divisional commander of The Salvation Army Southern California Division. "The donated shoes will go a long way in helping rebuild the lives of those in need, one step at a time."
“No other non-profit organization has the range of social services to help the needy like the Salvation Army,” explained Dubai.TV Host Janeen Mansour, who created the first ever Celebrity Shoe (throwing) Drive. “The Salvation Army provides homeless shelters, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, services for at-risk youth, summer camp for underprivileged children, day care, elderly care, after school programs for inner city kids, transitional and permanent housing for those afflicted with HIV/AIDS. We will never forget this charity’s disaster response to those devastating California wildfires this past October.”
The Celebrity shoe drive is open to the public, and participants must sign in and bring a pair of new shoes or ones in good condition to throw. The person who throws their shoes the farthest in each category will receive the “Golden Shoe Award.” The Guiness Book of World Records has been invited to the event.
“We are thrilled that the Salvation Army is participating, because they are the only agency I know that assists more than 35 million Americans each year through the broadest array of social services,” said Mansour.
“We hope by bringing celebrities to this fun-filled family event, it will bring more attention to needy families, especially in these hard economic times,” she said.
