“Thank Your Mentor Day” Set For January 25th

Communities In Schools of North Carolina participates in National Mentoring Month by encouraging others to take part in national tribute to mentors

Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 23, 2007 - (Raleigh, NC) January 22, 2007 – Communities In Schools of North Carolina (CISNC) is once again participating in National Mentoring Month by recognizing this year’s Thank Your Mentor Day™ which will be celebrated Thursday, January 25th. CISNC is encouraging those who have been influenced by a mentor in their life to participate by contacting their mentors to personally thank them, becoming mentors themselves or posting a tribute to their mentor on the campaign website, www.whomentoredyou.org.

National Mentoring Month was created to highlight mentoring and the positive impact it can have on young lives. CISNC has partnered with the NC Mentoring Partnership and the Governor’s Crime Commission in recognizing National Mentoring Month during the entire month of January.

"The need for positive role models in the lives of children is greater than ever,” stated Dr. Susan G. Weinberger, President of the Mentor Consulting Group and a nationally recognized expert in mentoring. “CIS of North Carolina is in the forefront of promoting quality mentoring around the state. During the sixth annual National Mentoring Month, it is a pleasure to applaud this outstanding organization for its tireless efforts to ensure that the youth of North Carolina are matched with caring mentors from the community.”

This year’s National Mentoring Month theme is “Pass it on. Become a Mentor.” National Mentoring Month was developed by the Harvard Mentoring Project of the Harvard School of Public Health and the MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership. The 2007 national campaign has been established nation-wide in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Points of Light Foundation, the Communities In Schools program and other non profit groups.
