Austin-San Marcos, TX (1888PressRelease)
February 08, 2008 - Starting this Wednesday morning, 41 of the most recognized names in Austin business will gather at United Way Capital Area to take part in a three-day “Public Innovators Lab.” The goal of the Lab is to redefine the way we help build a stronger, more compassionate community, while empowering the participants with a new set of innovative tools for doing just that.
Richard Harwood, who is the national leader in helping organizations reconnect with community issues, will lead the training, which kicks off with a reception on Tuesday night before the intensive workshop begins on Wednesday.
“The Lab will help Austin’s leaders create new pathways to accelerate change and engender authentic hope in the community,” Harwood says. “It’s about finding ways to get past the negative conditions in public life that stand in the way of progress. During the Lab, we’ll examine how we can see, think about, and engage in our work from three important perspectives: (1) How we engage communities, (2) How we think about our organization's role in change, and (3) What we need to do as individuals to be effective and stay true to our own values.”
The Public Innovators Lab, presented by United Way, will be held from Wednesday, February 6 to Friday, February; 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at United Way Capital Area, 2000 E. MLK Jr. Blvd.; Waterloo Rooms. Of the participants confirmed to attend, notable names include David Halpern, Ann Stafford, Alice Wilson, Diane Miller, and David Balch.
This is a national training that brings civic leaders together to address root cause issues and is intended for people that want to accelerate change and create authentic hope in their communities. Public Innovators will learn what it takes to re-orient themselves in public life, discover new frameworks for working on current challenges, and network with a growing body of like-minded professionals.
