May 03, 2007 - On Sunday, June 3, 2007, from 11:00am-3:00pm, dog lovers from accross the Boston area will converge on Wompatuck State Park in Hungham for the 1st. Annual Leash On Life dog walk and family fun day to raise awareness and funds NEADS and their newest program, Canines For Combat Veterans.
NEADS, National Education For Assistance Dog Services, is a non-profit facility located in Princeton, MA that teams and trains individuals of all ages and a wide variety of disabilities, with service dogs to assist them in overcoming everyday challenges.
NEADS newest program is Canines For Combat Veterans which trains veterans and their service dogs to assist the amputee veterans with balance and walking and to assist those in wheelchairs with retreiving dropped objects and other items out of reach.
All adults attending the walk will be asked to donate $25. Children and dogs accompanied by adults will be admitted free. All proceeds from the event will be donated to NEADS and doners will be able to ear-mark their donation to a specific NEADS program if they desire.
After the walk, there will be free games, clowns, music, face painting and food as well as shopping bazar. Kids can "make their own dog toy" and dogs can unleash the inner artist in their paws with non-toxic paints! There will even be a "Potato Sack Dog Walk Race" as well as other fun human/dog team events.
