The festival attracted more than 4,500 category entries from 37 countries around the globe. The official Remi Awards Gala Dinner and Champagne Reception was held Saturday evening, April 28, 2007, at the Renaissance Houston Hotel Greenway Plaza.
“Chill” stars Thomas Calabro ("Melrose Place"), Ashley Laurence ("Hellraiser") and James Russo ("The Ninth Gate," "Donnie Brasco"). It is written and directed by veteran filmmaker Serge Rodnunsky, and produced by Rodnunsky and Shaun Kurtz.
The film tells the tale of an aspiring writer, Sam (Calabro), who gets a job as a clerk in an inner city grocery mart owned by Dr. Munoz, a former research scientist who claims to have a rare skin condition that forces him to live in sub-freezing temperatures. But it's what Sam doesn't know that might prove more fatal. His newfound employment is just a cover for a darker, more disturbing secret that lives behind the walls of the grocery mart.
Sam is horrified when he discovers that Munoz died some time ago, but has kept himself alive through occult measures and the flesh that he harvests from his kidnapped victims. “Chill” is inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's short story of the macabre, “Cool Air.”
WorldFest International Film Festival has awarded and discovered many filmmakers over the years including Steven Spielberg whose short film "Amblin'" (1968) won an award and became the name of his infamous film company. Also included is Ang Lee whose first feature film, “Pushing Hands,” won top prize. WorldFest has been a launching pad to success for many film directors such as Spike Lee, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, The Coen Brothers, David Lynch, Robert Rodriguez, Oliver Stone, and Brian De Palma. WorldFest is the longest running international festival for independent films and videos in the world.
A DVD release date is pending for “Chill” and this information will be announced at a later date.
