Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease)
August 18, 2007 - Founder Jeff Kindy, father of Josh Kindy, says he is excited about what the future holds. "We started this organization for children and their families suffring from Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease. A friend asked if Josh had ever seen the ocean, or the Grand Canyon before. He hadn't. Thats when I realizd that time for him may be short. I also realized that there are alot of other families who can't afford to go to these places. So we organized "A Sight to Remember"".
The Kindy family just returned from a 4505 mile round trip in 9 days touring the Southwestern states to include, Ohklahoma, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. The first of many trips to come. A sight to Remembr raises funds to support families that are affected by this disease, but can't afford to go to the sights that this country has to offer. Their main goal is provide travel, accomadations and meals for the families while they travel to different sights in the 48 continental U.S. "We fell it is important for those losing their sight to have something to remember, something to hold onto, something to cherish, a sight to remember." Mr. Kindy said.
The Organization also creates a small momento from the trip to allow the kids to remember the trip. These are things that can be held or smelled, using the other senses to provoke the memory. For instance from the recent trip to the Petrifie orest NationalPark, the Organization bought small peices of petrified wood for the participants.
Some future trips being planned include, The Grand Canyon, Mt Rushmore, Garden of the God's, Monument Valley, South Carolina and even Disney World.
"We are always looking for people willing to help our cause. We need volunteers for trips, accomadations and simple funding to keep everything going."
